Southern Utah TOSH Select in Second Week of Player Pool Training of Inaugural Year

St. George, UT – 11/23/21

Utah Youth Soccer Association, the leader in promoting, developing, and governing youth soccer in Utah, is excited to announce the launch of the Southern Utah TOSH Select (ODP) program in it’s second week of trainings. Prior to the launch of this regional program, players looking for additional training and higher level of play opportunities would need to make the drive up to the Salt Lake County area to attend tryouts and trainings for the TOSH State Select state-wide program.

TOSH State Select and Southern Utah TOSH Select are offered as a compliment to club programs as an additional resource for player development as they prepare for State, Regional, National and International competitions. TOSH State Select and Southern Utah TOSH Select represent the highest level of youth soccer offered in the State of Utah and is available to all (age specific) youth soccer players registered with Utah Youth Soccer Association. Players are selected on the basis of open identification sessions (tryouts).

As with TOSH State Select, the philosophy of the Southern Utah TOSH Select program is based on a directive from the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program, “formed in 1977, to identify a pool of players in each age group from which a National Team will be selected for international competition; to provide high-level training to benefit and enhance the development of players at all levels; and through the use of carefully selected and licensed coaches, develop a mechanism for the exchange of ideas and curriculum to improve all levels of coaching.” (USYS)

“The Southern Utah Tosh State Select Program has been a great benefit to all those who have participated to date. Players, parents, and coaches have all been very impressed with the professionalism, quality of trainings and the level of participation from teams throughout the region. We look forward to this program continuing its growth and are very excited to give the young talented players from Southern Utah the opportunity to participate and compete at this high level of play in the western region of US Youth Soccer.” Terry Ogden, UYSA Region 6 Coordinator.

After three days of ID sessions for the players in Southern Utah/Northern Nevada, training pools were selected for athletes ranging in age from U10 to U18. From these training pools, 16-player teams will be selected to compete and represent Southern Utah at ODP Region 4 Championships in Arizona in January.

“We’ve been aware of a tremendous growth in the level of play over the last decade in Southern Utah. The quality in the leadership and the professionalism at these local clubs has been a pleasure to watch develop over this time; we are grateful for the opportunity to work with these individuals to bring additional resources to further develop and enhance the growth of the game in Southern Utah for the benefit of the players, coaches, and clubs.” Eric Landon, UYSA State Technical Director.
