November 23, 2020 COVID-19 Update

The latest version from Utah Department of Health has permitted club and youth leagues to be treated like businesses under the new and updated COVID-19 restrictions and also permits club sports to continue. While the ability to train and play is great news for teams preparing for upcoming out-of-state tournaments and for clubs that operate indoor facilities, UYSA still encourages all teams and clubs to follow UYSA’s mandates to help slow the transmission of COVID-19. Remember, we are in the middle of a pandemic and our hospital’s ICU divisions are over capacity so anything we can do to play our part is extremely important.

Should you choose to move forward with training, we need to be consistent with the intent of the government’s continuing mask mandate and follow religiously the protocols we followed during this last Fall season.

If you are operating as a business and plan on keeping your doors open, you need to follow all private business requirements outlined by the State.

I have attached an undated FAQ that explains the current guidelines regarding the newest changes.

Notably regarding training and games:

Do I have to wear a mask if I am a performer or athlete in an event (like a game, competition, or performance)?

No. Individuals who are actively performing as an athlete at an organized athletic event or who are giving a religious, political, media, educational, artistic, cultural, musical, or theatrical presentation or performance for an audience do not have to wear a face mask. However, we strongly encourage individuals to wear a mask at all times during athletic events and performances if possible.

Please, to the extent that you can, either hold off on training / games, or use masks as much as you possibly can.

Thank you to everyone! Keep safe and healthy this holiday season.
